Crochet Granny Square Airpods Case with Starfish Applique ✨ Pattern + tutorial!

Today’s pattern features a charming crochet granny square AirPods case finished with an adorable starfish appliqué on the front. It’s cute, sturdy, beginner-friendly, and the perfect size to keep your AirPods safe and stylish. This design also pairs beautifully with keychains, bags, or summer-themed accessories.

For this pouch, I used soft beach-inspired shades yellow, and beige for the granny squares and a bright pop of color for the starfish.

Feel free to get creative with your palette: ocean blues, sunny yellows, coral pinks, red for starfish or even a textured cotton yarn for a more realistic look. You can also take inspiration from a starfish mold to shape your appliqué more accurately or keep it soft and simple with the this version.

Materials:

Hook: 3.5 mm

Yarn: DK weight yarn (2 colors of your choice)

Stitch Marker if you are a beginner.

 Granny Square - Side 1

Round 1

Start with a magic ring.

Ch 3 (counts as dc), work 2 dc into the ring.

Ch 2, 3 dc – repeat 3 more times (total 4 clusters).

Pull tail to close.

Sl st into top of beginning ch 3.

Round 2

Ch 3, 2 dc in same corner space.

In next corner: 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc.

Repeat this in all remaining corners.

Ch 2, sl st to starting ch-3.

Round 3

Ch 3, 2 dc in corner.

In next middle space: 3 dc.

In next corner: 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc.

Repeat around: (corner cluster → middle cluster).

Ch 2, sl st to join.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Granny Square – Side 2

Repeat Rounds 1–3 as above, changing colors each round:

Round 1: first color (ex: beige)

Round 2: second color (ex: yellow)

Round 3: third color (ex: beige)

Weave in all ends.

Star Appliqué

Round 1

Magic ring, 10 sc in ring.

Sl st to join.

Star Points (make 5)

Round 2

Ch 6.

In second ch from hook: sc.

Next ch: sc.

Next: hdc.

Next: dc.

Next: dc again.

Skip 1 stitch on the circle, sl st into next st.

Repeat for all 5 points.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Joining the Pouch

Place both granny squares back-to-back (Wrong Side facing).

Using matching yarn, work slip stitches through the back loops only along three sides to close the pouch.

String Loop

Make 5 sl st along top edge back loops.

Ch 50, sl st back into the same loop.

Make 5 sl st more.

Add 2 extra sl sts on the side for a neat finish.

Continue slip stitching around the remaining edge.

Ch 4–5, skip 1 st, sl st into next (button loop).

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Finishing

Glue or sew the star onto the center of one side.

Attach keychain or charm if desired.
